Quinn London collaborates with The Build Up Foundation

As a part of our continued commitment to social value at Homerton Hospital, Quinn London, alongside our subcontractors W. Portsmouth and FES, recently collaborated with The Build Up Foundation to build a series of new structures at The Homerton Adventure Playground.

Many of our site team, being Hackney residents themselves, were already familiar with the playground and saw that it needed some TLC, which they were keen to undertake as it was adjacent to our Homerton NEC project. The Build Up Foundation lead the project, putting children 6 to 16 in control of construction projects, providing them the opportunity to influence their local area, and see the real-life impact that they can have. The children were involved throughout the renewal project, from designing the playground structures through to taking part in the construction process. The experience provided an important learning experience whilst helping to develop practical transferable skills that will benefit them in the future.

A young participant shared their experience with us saying: “I have really learnt a lot from this process and have enjoyed using tools with support. I feel proud that I have been a part of changing the space of our adventure playground with new equipment and can show my friends what I have done”

The project included new additions to the playground, including a set of monkey bars and a dynamic jumping platform. The children completed the 7-week project by bringing their creative vision to life by adding some vibrant colours to the playground painting designs onto the equipment.

Our team, along with W. Portsmouth and FES, provided support through our financial sponsorship and volunteer efforts. In addition to the playground upgrades, Quinn London also  sponsored 250 nutritional lunch meals for the children during the summer holidays.

Sianead, the Adventure Playground Manager said: “This initiative was a great opportunity to engage young people and make a tangible difference in their community. Watching them design and build the new features was incredibly rewarding”.
