Fitzwilliam College Blocks
This project involved the complete refurbishment and modernisation of the halls of residents for the University of Cambridge. The works included the strip out, demolition, and complete overhaul of the halls to create new bedrooms with en-suites, a communal toilet area, and a gypsum room.
A new entrance lobby was also constructed to enclose the existing staircase, creating a more secure and welcoming atmosphere. The building was fitted with new services throughout, including additional plant located on the roof, which was hidden behind a new louvre screen.
The internal works included the construction of bedrooms, en-suites with shower pods, a gypsum room, communal toilets, a data room, a cleaners room, and corridors. The project was completed within a tight timeline, and with the close collaboration between the construction team and the client, the final outcome was agreed to the client’s satisfaction.
During the project, additional asbestos was discovered, but the construction team acted quickly to remove it while still maintaining the agreed program with the client. The client was pleased with the final result and the successful completion of the project.
