British Museum breaking ground ceremony

The British Museum is one of the world’s most renowned institutions dedicated to human history, art, and culture. Quinn London is pleased to announce the commencement of work at the British Museum as part of their Energy Centre Programme. Working as an essential partner in delivering the new East Road Building, this initiative aims to significantly reduce the Museum’s reliance on fossil fuels, enhancing both sustainability and energy efficiency.

Project Overview:

  • Structure: The new Energy Centre will consist of two floors, featuring a 250m² basement and a total floor area of 700m².
  • Foundation & Waterproofing: The facility will be built on a foundation of piled structures, accompanied by waterproofing solutions, ensuring protection against water ingress.
  • Internal Space: The internal space of the Energy Centre is designed as a shell, with future plans to incorporate installations such as sprinkler tanks, pumps, generators, and a substation.

Situated within the UK’s most visited Museum, the project has complex access requirements which means that careful coordination with multiple stakeholders is essential during this project. Quinn London has worked closely with the British Museum to develop a collaborative approach to avoid any disruption to the Museum’s daily operations and public visitors.
